Climate Adaptation Planning for Emergency Management (AWR-347) Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Building awareness of future climate hazards and impacts that the emergency services sector may face is very important. This course helps emergency services and the community better prepare for the climate adaptations necessary and systems vulnerabilities that may occur from hazard impacts. Participants will be able to describe the principles of climate adaptation planning for emergency management and existing first response processes and will be able to discuss the impact of weather on critical infrastructure and key resources while explaining the concurrent effects of climate change on those impacts. Participants will also gain an understanding of how to identify and apply adaptation strategies to address local emergency services sector vulnerabilities. The course is also designed to provide opportunities for participants to learn about various resources that can be used to implement local climate adaptation strategies in their communities. The goal of this course is to prepare the community and the emergency services sector for the climate adaptations and systems vulnerabilities that might occur from hazard impacts and to enhance awareness to future climate hazards and impacts that the emergency services sector may face. Testing an Emergency Operations Plan in a Rural EOC (PER-294) Time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm This eight-hour performance-level course has been designed with a proactive approach to testing rural communities’ Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) environment. In the process, the course provides relevant and valuable training to elected officials, EOC personnel, and rural community leaders representing both public and private sector entities. Throughout the training session, participants are provided with opportunities to exchange perceptions and best practices while interacting with participants from responder organizations, public and private sectors organizations, as well as with other EOC personnel working at regional and state levels. The emphasis of this course is a performance-oriented exercise which allows course participants to replicate the roles of various EOC personnel in an effort to test their community’s EOP. In the event that the community receiving the training does not have a written EOP, participants will be provided with a model EOP written for a rural county in the fictitious state of Columbia. |
Critical Infrastructure Resilience and Community Lifelines (MGT-414) Time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm In this course participants will learn how to develop a roadmap for progress toward the National Preparedness Goal by facilitating the development of resilience considerations and involving essential community critical infrastructure partners. Participants will learn how to formulate considerations for the resilience of community assets that leverage cross-sector partnerships. These considerations enhance the whole community’s ability to manage the risk associated with critical infrastructure protection efforts. Participants will have an opportunity to practice the practical skills necessary to formulate considerations in the local community. |
